artistic, crazy, or just plain eccentric?

when did being artistic turn into being crazy? i am an artist/dancer, most of my close friends are also artists, musicians, dancers, actors, or some combination thereof, and it seems that we all have one other thing in common...seemingly crazy artistic directors for whichever of our art projects. i've experienced, and hear stories of directors who ask/demand such favors that they have you questioning your own artistic integrity. do you reject what they ask of you and risk losing a job and future opportunities, or do you cave and mildly regret your prostitution? yes, an artistic director must have many pressures pulling them in many directions, but is that an excuse? while i understand the difficulty in finding something original and unique to present to an audience, i don't think that abusing performers in the process is appropriate. i wonder if j.lo has such problems...i guess we're just not famous enough.
